New Dev environment setup

January 10, 2008

Perfect timing...just as I was redoing some work on my Dev box, I saw this post on Boyzoid's site describing his dev environment. It fits quite well with my current projects, and I've since adopted his layout. While I'm running XP Pro, and could in theory use IIS, I finally grew tired of the hacks needed to run multiple sites on IIS/XP Pro (and still needing to turn them all on/off whenever I switch projects). Now that I'm on Apache, everything is MUCH easier to deal with. A year ago I was running 3 Windows machines for work/play/surfing. Now I'm down to 2 (and 1 of them is just a VM guest OS, running on an Ubuntu host). Soon, I'll be moving email off my Windows machine, and probably my MP3s/itunes as well (just need to find an MP3/ipod client for Linux that I like). The downword trend of Microsoft OS's in my office continues, and it feels pretty good. :) -n
